Cookie Policy

Last updated: July 24, 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how Epifany uses cookies, browser storage, and similar technologies when you visit or use the Epifany website and web application.

It should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains more broadly how Epifany processes personal data.

1. What are cookies and similar technologies?

Cookies are small text files that websites may store on your device.

Websites can also use similar technologies, including:

  • local browser storage;
  • session storage;
  • pixels;
  • software development kits;
  • browser or device identifiers;
  • other technologies that store or access information on your device.

In this Policy, we use the term “technologies” to refer collectively to cookies, browser storage, and similar mechanisms.

Epifany currently relies primarily on first-party browser storage rather than traditional HTTP cookies.

2. Why Epifany uses these technologies

Epifany uses browser technologies for two main purposes:

Necessary and functional purposes

These technologies allow Epifany to:

  • remember your privacy choice;
  • remember your light or dark theme;
  • associate saved perspectives with your browser;
  • retrieve perspectives that you have chosen to save;
  • provide features that you explicitly request.

They are not used to measure your behaviour for analytics or advertising purposes.

Optional analytics

With your consent, Epifany uses first-party analytics technologies to:

  • understand how the product is used;
  • measure sessions and returning usage;
  • understand which features are useful;
  • identify errors and performance issues;
  • improve the quality and reliability of Epifany.

Optional analytics are disabled unless and until you provide consent.

3. Categories used by Epifany

Necessary technologies

Necessary technologies support the operation of Epifany or provide features and preferences that you explicitly request.

They cannot be disabled through the consent panel because disabling them may prevent the requested feature from working correctly.

Necessary technologies do not authorise optional analytics.

Analytics technologies

Analytics technologies help us understand how Epifany is used and improve the product.

They are:

  • disabled by default;
  • activated only after consent;
  • stopped when consent is withdrawn;
  • separate from the functional identifier used for saved perspectives.

Epifany does not currently use a Marketing category because it does not currently use advertising pixels, behavioural advertising, retargeting, or third-party marketing analytics.

4. Technologies currently used

The following table describes the main browser-storage technologies currently used by Epifany.

Browser-storage technologies used by Epifany: name, category, purpose, when created, and retention
NameCategoryPurposeWhen it is createdRetention
ep_consentNecessaryRecords whether you accepted or refused optional analytics, together with the consent version and the date of your choiceWhen you accept, reject, or save your analytics preferenceUntil replaced, withdrawn, cleared, or invalidated by a new consent version

ep_fn_idNecessary / functionalRandom anonymous identifier used only to associate saved perspectives with your browserWhen you save a perspective for the first time, or when a previous functional identifier is restoredUntil your browser storage is cleared, deletion is requested, or it is no longer required for saved perspectives
ep_visitor_idLegacy functional storagePrevious identifier that may temporarily remain for existing users and be migrated to ep_fn_id to preserve saved perspectivesCreated by an earlier version of EpifanyRemoved after successful functional migration, or when browser storage is cleared
ep_analytics_idAnalyticsRandom identifier used to measure anonymous usage across analytics sessionsOnly after analytics consentUntil analytics consent is withdrawn or browser storage is cleared
ep_sessionAnalyticsStores information required to maintain an analytics sessionOnly after analytics consentReplaced or renewed as sessions change; removed when consent is withdrawn or browser storage is cleared
ep_last_activeAnalyticsStores the last activity time to help distinguish new and returning analytics sessionsOnly after analytics consentUntil consent is withdrawn or browser storage is cleared
ep_eventsAnalyticsStores a limited local history of first-party product events used by Epifany’s analytics systemOnly after analytics consentUntil consent is withdrawn, browser storage is cleared, or older events are replaced by the storage limit

The names or technical implementation of these technologies may change as Epifany evolves. If a material change affects your choices or introduces a new purpose, this Policy and the consent interface will be updated.

5. Functional and analytics identifiers

Epifany deliberately separates two types of anonymous identifiers.

Functional identifier

The functional identifier is used only to:

  • associate a saved perspective with your browser;
  • retrieve saved perspectives;
  • save or remove content at your request.

It is created only when a functional need arises, such as saving a perspective.

The functional identifier remains available even if you refuse analytics.

Analytics identifier

The analytics identifier is used only for optional product analytics.

It:

  • is created only after you provide consent;
  • is distinct from the functional identifier;
  • is not required to generate or save a perspective;
  • is removed from browser storage when you withdraw analytics consent.

Refusing analytics does not prevent you from using Epifany’s core features.

6. Analytics information collected after consent

If you accept analytics, Epifany may use browser storage to process information such as:

  • an anonymous analytics identifier;
  • a session identifier;
  • session start and activity times;
  • new or returning visitor status;
  • device and browser category;
  • screen dimensions;
  • language and time-zone information;
  • approximate country;
  • referral source;
  • campaign parameters;
  • generation and viewing events;
  • use of features such as expanding, saving, or rating a perspective;
  • interaction timing;
  • product errors and performance information.

This information is used for first-party product analytics.

Epifany does not currently use analytics storage for:

  • personalised advertising;
  • cross-site tracking;
  • retargeting;
  • selling user profiles;
  • creating advertising audiences for third parties.

7. Your choices

When no valid consent choice exists, Epifany presents a consent banner.

You can choose to:

  • Reject analytics;
  • Customize your preferences;
  • Accept analytics.

Accepting and rejecting analytics are both available directly from the first level of the banner.

Optional analytics are not activated merely because you:

  • continue browsing;
  • scroll the page;
  • submit a prompt;
  • close the customization panel;
  • do not interact with the banner.

Closing the customization panel without saving does not constitute consent.

8. Changing or withdrawing your consent

You can change your choice at any time through the link in the website footer.

When analytics consent is withdrawn:

  • future optional analytics tracking stops;
  • the analytics identifier is removed from browser storage;
  • analytics session information is removed;
  • locally stored analytics events are removed;
  • your consent choice is updated;
  • your theme preference remains available;
  • your functional identifier may remain available to retrieve saved perspectives.

Withdrawal does not automatically delete analytics information that was already stored on Epifany’s servers.

Server-side information already collected may remain until:

  • its applicable retention period expires;
  • it is deleted as part of normal data-management procedures;
  • a valid deletion request is completed;
  • longer retention is required by law or necessary for security or legal claims.

For more information about server-side retention and your rights, please see our Privacy Policy.

9. Browser controls

Most browsers allow you to:

  • view stored website data;
  • delete cookies and local storage;
  • block some or all storage technologies;
  • configure storage rules for individual websites;
  • clear browsing data automatically.

The available controls depend on your browser and device.

Deleting Epifany’s browser storage may:

  • reset your consent choice;
  • reset your theme preference;
  • remove the identifier used to retrieve saved perspectives;
  • cause the consent banner to appear again;
  • prevent Epifany from retrieving perspectives previously associated with that browser.

Browser controls do not necessarily delete information already stored on Epifany’s servers.

10. Third-party technologies

Epifany does not currently load third-party advertising pixels or third-party marketing analytics.

The fonts used by Epifany are self-hosted, meaning your browser does not need to contact Google Fonts when loading the website.

Epifany uses external service providers such as OpenAI, Vercel, and Neon to operate the service. Their processing of information is described in the Privacy Policy.

These service providers are not activated through optional advertising cookies on the Epifany website.

Submitting a prompt triggers processing required to provide the service and is separate from optional analytics consent.

11. International users

Epifany is operated from Switzerland and may be accessed internationally.

The rules governing cookies and similar technologies vary between countries.

Epifany applies its consent interface universally so that all users can:

  • reject optional analytics;
  • accept optional analytics;
  • review their preferences;
  • withdraw consent at any time.

12. Updates to this Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy when:

  • the technologies used by Epifany change;
  • a storage key is added, removed, or renamed;
  • a new analytics or marketing provider is introduced;
  • the purposes of processing change;
  • legal or regulatory requirements change;
  • the consent interface changes.

The latest version will be published on this page with its effective date.

If a material change requires a new consent choice, the stored consent version may be updated and the consent banner may be presented again.
